The Struggle of the Soul with God (Lucha del Alma con Dios) is a practical instruction on the apostolate of efficacious prayer and sacrifice. It was written by the Discalced Carmelite priest and mystic, Blessed Francisco of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and first published in 1843, with ecclesiastical approval, during great political and religious upheaval in his native Spain. It takes the form of a drama in order to teach the reader how to successfully “struggle with God” in prayer. The book is given here in an audio format in English, made possible by the efforts of volunteers. Although the book speaks of praying specifically for the Catholic Church in Spain, Blessed Francisco himself encouraged others to utilize its lessons for their own particular needs and circumstances. In the face of historic levels of moral decline in our present times, The Struggle of the Soul with God gives clear guidance to souls on how to pray effectively for one’s family or country, for the Church, or for any other need. It is the hope of the volunteers who helped produce this audiobook that it will be of spiritual benefit to those who listen to it.
